Post Race Report - 2023 Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen Speedtour | Watkins Glen International, Watkins Glen, NY
In his fourth race in Trans Am’s Big Machine Vodka Spiked Coolers TA2 class, Cale arrived at Watkins Glen for the first time. The weather conditions would turn out to be a challenge throughout the weekend, and created some hard choices before the race for which tire to use.
Qualifiying was cancelled due to fog, and as a result forced Cale to be gridded in the 28th position for the race.
During the 30 lap race, Cale would work his way up to 18th position, and in the last turn on the last lap was collected in a wreck between the two cars in front of him. This would result in a 20th place finish in a deep field of 38 cars.
“Man, what a tough weekend. When you show up at a track you have never been to, getting laps and track time is extremely valuable, and unfortunately, we missed out on two sessions which got us behind. Not being able to qualify was a real bummer because I knew we were better than 28th. In the race I was just trying to be patient since we started on wet tires. I knew we were going to have to switch to dry tires at some point, and I probably waited a couple laps too many to make the call. After the pit stop I was trying to stay out of trouble, and managed to miss the big wreck in the esses. Unfortunately on the last lap, in the last corner, the two cars in front of me got together and I couldn’t avoid the #42. I hate to leave with a wrecked car after managing to stay out of trouble all race. Luckily no one got hurt, and we will regroup for VIR next month.”
