Post Race Report - 2023 VIR

VIR Speedtour | Virginia International Raceway Alton, VA

VIR marked the first time Cale would arrive at a track with previous experience in Trans Am’s Big Machine Vodka Spiked Coolers TA2 class. This is his home racetrack, and a track he feels very comfortable at, so it is no surprise that Cale got his best finish yet in this series.

The car was not handling the best in the first of three practice sessions, but the crew from Nitro Motorsports was able to make some great adjustments, and Cale was able to pickup speed each time he went out. After qualifying was complete for the 34 car field, Cale found himself in the 25th starting position for the race.

During the 30 lap race, Cale was able to avoid a few incidents, and make up several spots. After the 100 miles were complete, Cale was able to secure a 14th place finish. This marked his highest finish in the series, surpassing his 16th place finish at Mid-Ohio earlier this year.

“It feels so good to finally have no issues and get the finish we deserve.  Big thanks to all the guys at Nitro Motorsports.  The car needed a lot of work after the crash at Watkins Glen, and they put in a lot of hours getting it back up and running.  We made a few changes between each practice, and into qualifying, and felt good about our race setup.  Qualifying was not quite as good as I would have hoped, but I was able to stay clean during the race and make up spots.  I feel like top 15 finishes are where I should finish if we do not have any issues in the race, so it feels good to meet that goal.”

Be sure to catch MavTV’s replay on Thursday, October 12th to see the action for yourself!
