Post Race Report-2025 Road Atlanta

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta was the site for round two of the 2025 Cube3 Architecture TA2 series season.  This was only Cale’s second time at the circuit with his TA2 car, but it is a track where he has raced many times in other series.  The 2.55-mile track is known for its high speeds and drastic elevation changes, it is certainly a challenging yet fun place to race.

The #99 Mincey’s Graphics Mustang was quick from the first test session.  Key input from driver coach Tyler Kicera produced big gains in lap times from testing to practice to qualifying.  The guys from Nitro Motorsports didn’t need to make many adjustments to the setup over the course of the practice sessions, and after qualifying was completed for the 33-car field, Cale found himself in the 21st starting position overall, and 5th in the Pro/Am class.

The race would prove to be a series of tough battles within the Pro/Am class.  Phillips was able to make up some spots on the initial start, and the subsequent restart to position himself in third in Pro/Am.  During a long green flag run the car began to free up, and Cale ended up falling back to 4th in Pro/Am after a battle with the #00 that lasted a couple of laps.  After a late race restart with under ten laps remaining, Phillips found himself in podium position running third in Pro/Am but was hit in turn two and forced through the grass causing him to lose two spots.  He was able to make up one of those before the checkered flag flew, and a post-race penalty to the #00 elevated his finishing position to 3rd in Pro/Am, and 12th overall.

“Well, that was an eventful race.  It was a tough battle for most of the race between me and the #00.  I felt I was in a good position there on the second to last restart but got hit and took a ride through the grass.  The car started to overheat a little from the grass on the grill, so I was doing everything I could to try to clear it.  I also ended up having a big cut on my tire from where I got hit, so luckily that didn’t blow out before the end of the race.  I was frustrated after the race knowing I was in a podium spot, then not getting it.  Turns out we ended up there with the penalty to the #00.  I will take the points and enjoy this little break before getting back to it at Lime Rock.  Thanks to the whole Nitro group for everything they do, I don’t think anyone can argue they are the team to beat after the domination this weekend. There were 4 podium spots up for grabs for the team when the weekend began, 3 in the National class and 1 in Pro/Am, and Nitro got 4 drivers on the podium.”

CP Racing’s next race will be in Trans Am TA2 at Lime Rock Park for the Lime Rock SpeedTour event.  That race will be Saturday, May 24th.
