Cale Phillips’ SNP/Monkee’s #99 Mustang Entering T7 at Sebring International Raceway

This weekend was Cale’s second race in the Trans Am series, and first at Sebring. This race would mark the start to the 2023 Trans Am season, in which Phillips will compete in six of the twelve races on the TA2 series schedule.

Cale Phillips’ SNP/Monkee’s #99 Mustang pushing through the field into T1 at Sebring International.

A solid qualifying effort would see Cale qualify his SNP/Monkee’s #99 Mustang in 25th position in a field of 44 cars. This would inspire a promising outlook for the race, where Cale would look to make the top 20 to get the season off on the right foot.

On race day Cale would make his way to 18th position in the closing laps before being caught out by a crashing car. This incident would result in the #99 going airborne, before hitting the concrete walls on the outside of turn 16, resulting in a DNF for the SNP/Monkee’s #99 as well as an extensive list of required repairs. Cale would also receive what are believed to be some minor injuries to his right hand, but he believes it should not present an issue for his scheduled appearance at Road Atlanta in late March.

Cale’s response to the event was was frustrated, but ultimately accepting - “It’s an unfortunate end to what was shaping up to be a good finish for our SNP/Monkee’s #99 Mustang. Not much you can do when you are just in the wrong place at the wrong time and someone else makes a mistake. I’m glad I am ok, it was a really rough hit on the back straight there. Thankful for the safety of these cars, and the Sebring safety crew. It would have been nice to have a good finish to show how well we raced, but that’s just how it goes sometimes.”

Tune in to MAVTV at 8pm on Thursday, March 2nd to watch the race replay and follow the action yourself. CP Racing’s next race will be in TransAm TA2 at Road Atlanta for the Mission Foods Atlanta SpeedTour on Sunday, March 26th.
