Post Race Report - 2024 VIR

The iconic Virginia International Raceway was the venue for round eleven of the 2024 Cube3 Architecture TA2 series season.  This would mark Cale’s third trip to his hometown track in the TA2 series, and a place he has seen plenty of success over the years.

The weekend kicked off on Thursday with two test sessions.  Cale was able to show good speed right out the gate, benefiting from just having been at the track testing two weeks earlier.  Qualifying Friday would see Phillips lay down his fastest ever lap at VIR, as he qualified in the 16th position overall and 4th in the Pro/Am class.

Cale was able to hold his position at the start of the race, and began make passes before an early caution came out.  The following restart would see Phillips loose 3 positions as he made a mistake exiting turn one, but he was then able to make those passes back before another double yellow would slow down the field.  When the final full course caution came out, Cale found himself leading the Pro/Am class and in the 12th place position overall.  When the race went back green with 11 laps remaining, Phillips was able to hold off the charging Barry Boes for a few laps, before Boes was able to make the pass for the lead entering turn one.  Cale was then able to hold on to second place in Pro/Am, and 13th overall, as the checkered flag flew at the conclusion of the thirty-one lap race.

“Man what an exciting race.  I could tell I was moving up the order as the race went on, and when I saw I was leading under that last caution, I knew we were in a good spot.  My car was just way too loose there at the end to be able to hold onto the lead, but I am beyond happy with the result.  I have felt like we have been really close to being on the podium in every race this season, so it feels really good to finally be up there.  I love VIR, and it is a great feeling to be on the podium at your home track.  Even though this is my last race of the season, it is great momentum and confidence moving forward.  I can’t thank Nitro Motorsports enough, they work extremely hard and none of this would be possible without them.”

Be sure to tune in to MAVTV this Thursday night (October 10th) at 8pm to catch the race highlight show.

Stay tuned in the next month or two for news on our plans for 2025!
